Jackson Harris is paving his way into the Pop/Rock indie music scene in New York City. His cover and video for Jay-Z’s song “Empire State of Mind” are getting thousands of views on YouTube.
The indie artist’s take on the hip-hop song is fresh and endearing. Justin Bieber even featured Harris’s video for “Empire State of Mind” on his Buzznet page, and the video was recommended by a fashion blogger on YouTube.
Harris’s original song “Long Story Short” seems to be his own personal anthem. Lyrics such as “taking the road less traveled” and “living my life like I’m dying” show his desire to carve his own path.
The artist writes all of his own songs and says, “I draw on the things that are going on in my life and I try to turn them into art.” His musical inspirations include Bill Joel, Maroon 5, Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, and Michael Jackson.
Harris began singing at age 9; and for the past 4 years he has been playing guitar and teaching himself the piano. The artist hopes to tackle learning the drums next.
Having grown up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, this native New Yorker attended private school. While his peers pursued college and more traditional career paths into adulthood, Harris remains focused on his budding music career.
Next up for Harris is the debut of his single “Long Story Short,” performances across the country, and an upcoming EP. This musician has a strong management team behind him and a growing audience, so the possibilities are endless for Jackson Harris.
