With the release of their debut full length In Your Head on Saint Elsewhere Records, Playing Dead deliver high-energy indie-punk that takes the genre somewhere new while remaining true to their roots.
Formed in 2004 by Sam Hoyos (vocals/guitar) and Dave Casale (bass), Playing Dead is a pillar of the Long Island and Brooklyn indie scene. The band has toured extensively throughout the East coast and tristate area, releasing three EP’s and building a strong following along the way. They were recently ranked #27 in the alt-rock category of Deli Magazine’s top 300 NYC artists.
Hoyos and Casale were joined by drummer Steve DeJoseph (Former Taking Back Sunday) in 2007. Their lineup was finalized in 2009 with the addition of guitarist Tom Dileo, who rounded out the band’s sound smooth vocal harmonies and catchy lead lines.
In December of 2009, Playing Dead teamed up with Keith Moore of Audio Playground to record their first full-length studio album,In Your Head. Their first single, “Apology Is the New Foreplay”, as well as “Architect from Hell” and “I Wanna Do Bad Things to You”, burst with the intensity of Alkaline Trio and Fugazi, while tracks like “Places” and “On a Thursday”, offer catchy guitar driven melodies reminicient of Weezer, Samiam, and the Pixies. Earlier this year, the band was signed to Alex Amiruddin’s (The Movielife) Saint Elsewhere Records.
Playing Dead’s latest album In Your Head, now available on iTunes, delivers a unique brand of indie-punk that isn’t afraid to take listeners somewhere they haven’t been before and makes you excited to see where they might take us in the future.
