New Media Pioneer: Greg Grant of Festival Radio

Festival_RadioThe Hits Just Keep On Comin’ is mostly, but not entirely, about the Top 40 past, and how it’s still with us today in lots of ways, in addition to discussing whatever else strikes them as interesting.

Q) Tell us a little bit about your blog. What inspired you to start it?

A) Festival Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/woodsmeister) actually started as a lark.  I have a large and eclectic CD collection and my briefcase was getting heavy lugging CDs to work every day.  Live365.com was giving away Internet streams at the time (July 2000) and I thought it would be a cool solution to my problem.

New Media Pioneer – Pedram Mobedi of This Winkis’s

TheWinkisQ) Tell us a little bit about your blog. What inspired you to start it?

A) This Winki’s is an indie music blog that features album reviews, new artist introductions, lists, interviews as well as some occasional mixtapes. I live in Iran and the blog started in December 2007 when my military service was finished. I started This Winki’s to spread the word, stay updated and share what I think about what I listen to so I won’t regret it someday. I primarily wanted to write in Persian language but then decided to widen my audience by using English.

Q) Why do you believe new media resources (i.e. blogs, podcasts, Internet radio stations) have become so popular? How have they been beneficial to artists? How have they been detrimental?

Why Every Indie Music Artist Should Start a Blog

blogger-and-wordpress-differences-logoEvery Indie music artist should think about starting a blog.

First though, a little rant. I’m always shocked by the amount of crudeness people will allow on their MySpace pages. It’s not always their own content either. In fact, usually it’s the comments other people leave on their page.

If people start dropping comments on your page like, “Yo man, ur shits smashin, check out my dope new tracks !!”, not only should you not check out their dope new tracks, but disable comments on your page altogether because your page is becoming a spam farm. If your page is attracting these types of numnuts, pretty soon you’ll be inundated with more garbage than a Mumbai slum.
