mass-fam1Midnight Masses is an ever-expanding collective of mostly Brooklyn-based artists, led and formed by Autry Fulbright in the wake of his father’s untimely death in 2008.

On any given night the band could be a lean ensemble of its core members or an imposing 14-piece collection of string players, organists, and guests pulled from any number of Brooklyn’s finest bands – including Trail of Dead’s Kevin Allen, Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, TV on the Radio’s Gerard Smith and Jaleel Bunton, the bewitching Katie Eastburn, Peter Hale of Here We Go Magic, and more.

newcollisionIn just over six months, Boston’s The New Collisions have gone from an unknown club band to one of the northeast’s hottest acts. Fresh off a national tour with The B-52s and Blondie, they are gearing up for the release of their debut EP, Invisible Embraces, on November 17.

Greg Hawkes, the legendary keyboard player from The Cars, happened to catch one of the band’s first shows. Over the spring, he worked with the band and with platinum-selling producer Anthony Resta (Duran Duran, Missing Persons), another early fan.

“We want The New Collisions to be about everything we love,” says Sarah Guild, 23, the band’s platinum-haired frontwoman. “Fashion, art, melody, great lyrics–all the things that make pop music timeless. But to see it come together this quickly has been simply incredible.”

jaynash-02-bigThe multi-genre rock inspired artist, Jay Nash, has added tour dates to send off the summer season starting July 16 to September 26. The independent musician is touring in support of his latest release EP, All the Stars in Copenhagen.

“It was fun little recording to make…first in Copenhagen, then in Berlin and finished up in LA with David Immergluck and Seth Atkins Horan,” Nash posted on his Myspace blog.

Nash is coming off a benefit performance, which helped raise almost $11,000 for Save the River.

“Save the River protects the delicately balanced environmental and socioeconomic interests of the 1000 Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in upstate NY,” Nash also posted on the blog.

xylosalbumThis Brooklyn indie quintet quietly released their debut EP Bedrooms and the buzz that has followed has been anything, but QUIET.

Bedrooms features whimsical indie-pop as well as guest vocals from the members of Yeasayer.

If the EP is any indication of the things to come, than we are all in for a deliciously well-crafted treat in the months ahead.

As the band is in the studio with producer Britt Myers (Chairlift, Essex Green) recording their debut full-length.

scotthardkissIndie musician Scott Hardkiss has released a teaser to his long-awaited debut album, Technicolor Dreamer. The You’re the Star EP (available now on all download services) is a searing, guitar-laced, electronic dance-pop buffet.

Jose Luis Pardo AKA “DJ Afro” of Los Amigos Invisibles shows up at the end and brings it all home with an electric solo so mind-melting it would make Jimi proud.  The Prophetz participated, but we’ll never tell.

It is catchy as hell & easy to dance to, and the perfect teaser for Scott’s debut album Technicolor Dreamer.

The EP was produced by John Naclerio (Brand New, My Chemical Romance). The Tyler, Tex. based quintet’s EP release date is 6.23.2009.

The first track, “Minor Chords Are So 2003,” establishes The Rad’s rock sound, which focuses on the boyfriend’s view of trying to a “sold out” relationship.  The song’s live concert-ready track extends throughout Fake It Till You Make It.

hotspurWashington D.C. natives, Hotspur have set a June 23, 2009 release date for their debut album titled, You Should Know Better By Now, produced by Bryan Russell (Envy On The Coast, Straylight Run) mixed by Paul Leavitt (Circa Survive, All Time Low, Senses Fail).  The band will support the release with a national tour.

Taking unabashed punk-rock intensity and dance floor energy, boxing it up into chords and melodies, then spraying on a shiny pop veneer and dropping a Korg Triton on it, Hotspur can be more succinctly described as catchy as hell.

The band, Joe Mach (vocals and guitar), Dave Trichter (piano/keys), Evan Anderson (guitar), Coop Cooper (bass) and Scott Robinson (drums) has been compared to the likes of Muse, All American Rejects, The Fray and Fall Out Boy.
