Two things happened recently to inspire this article.

Scenario #1: I was out at the Mercury Lounge seeing music and between bands I was standing at the bar talking to some friends and someone handed me a show flyer. I was taken with him immediately, I always appreciate anyone who is self -promoting because its not easy to do and it’s especially not easy to do at a crowded bar on a Wednesday night in downtown Manhattan. Flyers Are An Effective Online Tool

event_flyerRemember the days when flyers were just posted on light posts, store windows, bars and bulletin boards around various local businesses? Well now indie artists can post their flyers on the Web for the world to see.

Flyers were once a dying art and advertisement for bands to utilize in order to expose their projects. But now, artists can post them on any networking site they are a part of.

For instance, an artist can post them on Myspace as an image and actually have an album just for flyers for their fans to view. On Facebook, a band can put up a flyer in a photo album. As always, they can place the art as their profile picture until the event arises.
