Lost and Found – An interview with indie hitmakers Lost In Los Angeles (LiLA), a Californian trio with bite and melody

Lost In Los Angeles – LiLA are an alt dream pop band from, you guessed it, Los Angeles, with influences as diverse as David Bowie’s spangly catsuit collection but a sound as succinct and insightful as a pocket collection of Oscar Wilde-isms, or Louise Brooks’ iconic bob (I couldn’t decide which simile was worse, so I opted to include both for any particularly fussy readers out there.)

Lost in Los Angeles

At once surreal and esoteric, and positively chart worthy, Lost In Los Angeles are likely to appeal to anyone with a pair of functioning ears. We (or rather, I – I am only one person) chatted to them about the benefits of staying independent, the success of their most recent video, their plans for the future, and the sentient being that is songwriting. Oh, and there are some damn fine tips for marketing your music so, if you’re not a marketing genius (unlikely), I’d strongly recommend you take five minutes to learn a little from three guys who know wtf they’re talking about.

Supernova.com Partners with Radio Stations to Expose Indie Bands

As the “Indie Online Band of the Month,” winners will receive:

Is Your Indie Band’s Presence Strong on Search Engines?

Generating an online presence is something that has been ignored by bands that we search for when we look for information on new independent artists. Indie bands and artists generally have one or two sites that they have signed up on, but there’s a lack of vital information.

Since all of the social media sites are free, why aren’t artists taking advantage of this free marketing opportunity?

Your band’s website should be dominating the first page of search results for your project’s name. All of the social media and music websites should be right under it, fighting to take up the first page.

Socialize with Your Fans on Your Social Media Profiles

One of the misconceptions about using social networks is all you need to do is post content and not interact with fans. This is the wrong angle to take in order to be successful on social media.

For example, did you just receive comments about a post revealing new concert dates on Facebook and not respond to them? Then you’re already failing…

You need to treat a site like Facebook as a party. You don’t want to be the silent person in the corner who blurts out a comment and stays quiet while others converse.

What if fans are leaving negative comments?

Indie Bands: Use Social Media to Help Sell Your Music

Your band has created a website and has applied all the content available for your fans to enjoy.  Now you’re wondering what else you can do to help sell your music. Sign up and stay active on social networks.

That’s right… Posting what you had for dinner on the road, new tour dates, posts on your blog and all the content you have actually can help sell your music. Believe it or not, that type of content is appealing to fans and interested buyers of your music.

How does this help sell music?

Indie Artists Promote Each Other on Headliner.fm

headlinerfm_logoAttention indie  bands and artists, Headliner.fm wants to help you connect with other musicians and ultimately reach new fans and better promote your music. The website is a “promotion exchange” for bands and artists to help build awareness for each other.

Bands who sign-up on Headliner are able to join forces with and promote other bands on each other’s Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace profiles. Members are rewarded a number of “band bucks” (proportionate to how many followers they have on their social media sites) which can be used to buy requests from other bands to give your band promotion on their social media profiles.

OK Go Left Their Major Label, Who’s Next?

okgoWe have covered stories about bands like Third Eye Blind and Counting Crows taking the independent route. These bands could have signed with major labels, but took a new approach to the music industry. OK Go is also making their own path by creating their own label called Paracadute.

OK Go’s move gave a swift kick to the current industry model. Tour dates have been set up which will help bring in funds for the band. Paracadute and OK Go will manage the band’s distribution and promotion.

How much of an impact will a move like this have?
