Lost and Found – An interview with indie hitmakers Lost In Los Angeles (LiLA), a Californian trio with bite and melody

Lost In Los Angeles – LiLA are an alt dream pop band from, you guessed it, Los Angeles, with influences as diverse as David Bowie’s spangly catsuit collection but a sound as succinct and insightful as a pocket collection of Oscar Wilde-isms, or Louise Brooks’ iconic bob (I couldn’t decide which simile was worse, so I opted to include both for any particularly fussy readers out there.)

Lost in Los Angeles

At once surreal and esoteric, and positively chart worthy, Lost In Los Angeles are likely to appeal to anyone with a pair of functioning ears. We (or rather, I – I am only one person) chatted to them about the benefits of staying independent, the success of their most recent video, their plans for the future, and the sentient being that is songwriting. Oh, and there are some damn fine tips for marketing your music so, if you’re not a marketing genius (unlikely), I’d strongly recommend you take five minutes to learn a little from three guys who know wtf they’re talking about.

The Narrative Set Date for Self-Titled Album Release

TheNarrative_DigitalCoverThe Narrative will release their highly anticipated debut self-titled album on July 27th. The group’s latest effort maintains a diversity that most bands struggle to achieve while remaining harmonious with the sound.

The New York based indie pop rock group is a perfect example of how sometimes things just seem to fall into place. Jesse Gabriel (guitar/vocals) met Suzie Zeldin (keyboard/vocals) for a slice of mediocre New York pizza after she responded to his 3 page long Craigslist ad. They soon learned that not only did they go to high school together; they also shared identical musical interests.

The two spent much of the next year heading from their nine-to-fives to Suzie’s cramped Upper East Side apartment to craft their first tunes. When it came time to record an album, Jesse and Suzie were introduced to Charles Seich (drums) by producer Bryan Russell.

Introducing: Indie Pop Band Jessie Murphy In The Woods

jessiemurphytrioJessie Murphy In The Woods is a trio that combines indie pop with dark humor and classical sensibilities. The band consists of Marcia Webb (flute, pan pipes, and clarinet, Wurlitzer electric piano, and vocals), Amy Stratton (horn, flute, vocals, percussion), and Jessie Murphy (lead vocals, acoustic guitar). All three are accomplished musicians in their own right but together they create a unique brand of soulful songs.

There’s an infectious joy in Jessie Murphy In The Woods’ new album, Eight Belles, that sweeps the listener in its wake. By turns ethereal, mystical, spiritual and haunting, the New York City based trio plays with a sense of wonder and discovery that makes them one of 2009’s singular new acts to watch.
