Indie Band The Russian Futurists New Album is Out Now

The Russian Futurists new album The Weight’s on the Wheels is out now and they’ll be playing a handful of dates beginning with tonight at the Mercury Lounge in NYC.

The Toronto based indie artist aka Matthew Adam Hart produced the new album with the aid of Michael Musmanno (Outkast, Lilys, Arrested Development) and sonically takes his sound out of the bedroom and onto the airwaves.  The Weight’s On The Wheels captures the Futurists in full pop regalia from start to finish.

The Russian Futurists released his debut album The Method of Modern Love on Upper Class nearly a decade ago and quickly caught the ear of musicians and critics alike earning Matthew Adam Hart comparisons to Magnetic Fields and Flaming Lips, raves from Pitchfork, SPIN, The Guardian and XLR8R and praise from established acts Blur, REM and Snow Patrol.

Indie Artist K.Flay Releases Self-Titled Debut EP

Indie rock – hip hop artist K.Flay is excited to announce the release of her self-titled debut EP. As the first new recorded music in the last year, K.Flay’s EP is available on iTunes and K.Flay’s website, and will be available for purchase at every one of her shows on her first ever US tour, already on the road with Passion Pit.

Last year, K.Flay self-released her first mix tape titled MASHed potatoes and is currently available for free on her website. More recently, she created a track titled “2 Weak” where she sampled Grizzle Bear’s “Two Weeks.” It premiered on RCRD LBL and has attracted the attention of critics and label representatives alike.  “2 Weak” will not be featured on the EP, so head over to RCRD LBL to get your copy.

The San Francisco based Chicago raised musician has been making waves with her unique brand of indie rock meets hip hop. Due to her talent and distinctive sound, she has been able to perform with some of music’s biggest names including Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, Minus the Bear, and none other than Snoop Dog himself!

Indie Band Rubik Returns to the US for Spring Tour in Support of US Debut

rubik550Finland’s indie art-pop collective Rubik are returning to the US in June for a full tour in support of their second album and US debut – Dada Bandits.

Released stateside this past fall on Fullsteam/Paper Tiger AV, the album was met with critical praise and found the Finnish collective doing a handful of US dates including a show at CMJ Music Marathon in NYC as well as session for KEXP.

Rubik, now a staple on the European indie-music scene, started playing out live in 2003.  In 2005, the band released their debut EP People Go Missing and in 2007 they released their first studio full-length Bad Conscience Patrol on Fullsteam Records.

ShredforYourLifeThe 6th annual “Shred For Your Life” Guitar Battle will be held on April 17th at Webster Hall presented by Dickies!  From its humble beginnings in the back of Max Fish in 2005, to Santos Party House in 2008, musician/artist Marc Razo’s “Shred For Your Life” has been challenging 13 to 54 year olds to shred their best for the past 5 years.

In addition, this year “Shred For Your Life” has secured some of the coolest and shred worthy judges including Andrew W.K., Justin Theroux (actor/writer Tropic ThunderIron Man 2), and Jaleel Bunton (TV On The Radio).  Past judges have included actor/comedian David Cross (Arrested Development/Mr. Show), Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Ray Barbee (Skateboard Legend/Musician) among others.

This isn’t just a guitar nerd-fest; “Shred For Your Life” is all about having an awesome time.  It’s for everyone from the insane shredder to the kid who likes to bop his head to the music.  This year’s head to head battle featuring the best guitarists of all ages and genres is sure to be the biggest and baddest yet.
