1. What are your favorite blogs/audio blogs featuring new music do you like to visit?
You know, it’s funny. I don’t really read any music-related blogs on a regular basis. I’m a bit of a chronic Googler, and that’s how I find most new (and new to me) music, both for my blog and for my own enjoyment. I read other blogs regularly, particularly in the left-leaning political and feminist blogosphere, but I’m pretty fickle when it comes to subscribing to blogs about the arts.

New Media Pioneer: Colin Rink of Dylan for Virgins Podcast

Dylan For Virgins is a regular DIY music podcast which reviews the works of independent artists. Each episode we feature one song of the independent artist reviewed and provide helpful tips and tricks of the music industry that work for all performers in all genres. Aside from the music business, we also tell stories that have helped us as musicians in performances all around North America, and fascinating musical stories from great musical legends; from Bob Dylan, to Jimi Hendrix.

New Media Pioneer: Heather Smith of Rubyfruit Radio

Rubyfruit Radio is a podcast that features only female artists and female fronted bands. There are also periodic features on the Facebook Fan Page and on the website. Sometimes, Rubyfruit Radio includes “token boy” features which usually consist of a video posted on rubyfruitradio.com.

1. You have aired over 100 shows so far, what keeps you going, why do you want topromote artists?

I like hearing new music and I like sharing music I find with people around the world. I sometimes look at the show as being my mixtape for the masses. I used to make mixtapes for friends of music I would stumble upon and this is not different. The internet just takes it to a much larger scale.

1. What was the inspiration behind starting the Post It Cast?

As someone who is constantly following and learning about things old and new, I was commonly asked why I didn’t make more of these things that I came across available to share with others. With that motivation and extraverted personality was the direct motivation to start up The Post It Cast and expand it in terms with a podcast,video,blog,Twitter, And Facebook Groups/Social Network to expand the show beyond just the Podcast.

1. Where do you get all of your live music information that you put on your calendar?

Concert dates come from artists’ personal websites and Ticketmaster.com, where I have an affiliate account.

Rathole Radio is an internet radio show and podcast about music, free culture, news, interviews, and politics. Brought to you by Dan Lynch with humor, the best in new music, and exclusive live performances. All from sunny Liverpool in the UK.

How many listeners do you have on average?

It varies a lot between the live show and the download. We get about 40-50 live listeners usually but each episode then gets 1000+ downloads. I suppose because of time differences most people can’t join the live show and the download is more convenient.

A) I’m a former corporate PR guy. Left the corporate world at the end of 2004, and realized after listening to many podcasts that there was a lot of poor quality production being done. I had background in radio, and know how to produce and edit news stories for radio. I learned digital tools and began focusing on podcasting as the core competency of my consultancy.
